Canadian Adult Education Credential

The Canadian Adult Education Credential (CAEC) is a Canadian education credential that meets industry standards as a replacement for the General Educational Development (GED). The CAEC tests offer adults a way to obtain a high school equivalency diploma recognized by Alberta Education. Many employers will accept the CAEC in place of a high school diploma, and some college programs accept the CAEC in place of a prerequisite.

• Eligible if 18+ years or older, do not have a high school diploma, and have been out of school for ten months or more.

• The CAEC credential has five tests: reading, writing, math, social studies, and science. You must pass the test in each subject area.
• Please review the test outcomes on the CAEC website, which outline the knowledge and skills needed to pass each test successfully.

• Practice with a sample test available in each subject on the CAEC website.
• Take a test preparation class available at some testing centres, online, or through post-secondary schools.
• Register for an account on the CAEC website and schedule your tests at an approved testing center.

We will get to know you, your background, needs and goals for achieving your Canadian Adult Education Credential. 

• Schedule Math and Literacy Assessments

We will schedule a time to administer a math and reading assessment to help determine literacy and numeracy academic readiness to meet the CAEC outcomes.

• Review Options

If you need to upgrade your foundational math and literacy skills, we will match you with a tutor and outline any courses we may offer, free or at a minimal cost.

When you are ready to tackle the CAEC content and have been working with your tutor regularly, we partner with Norquest College, register you in their Foundational Learning Preparation Program, and provide tuition financial support and up to 30 hours of in-person tutoring support.
