Nehiyawak (neh-HEE-oh-wuk) is the Plains Cree word for the Cree people. This is a unique opportunity to join in classes led by Karen Yellowknee. This 6 week course will offer oral, visual and hands on learning. This course is for new learners and for those that have taken the class with Karen previously. The course material will be adjusted depending on the students’ experience with Cree.
Karen Yellowknee is a Cree language teacher originally from Slave Lake, Alberta who brings 29 years of dedicated teaching to her role. She has a Masters in Indigenous Languages. She has Cree linguistic proficiency and is currently serving as a Cree Curriculum Coordinator and a Cree Language Teacher. “My commitment to preserving and promoting the richness of Cree language and culture is reflected in my innovative teaching of various methodologies. With a profound understanding of the Cree language, I believe I am poised to contribute my wealth of knowledge and expertise, ensuring an enjoyable and fun language learning journey for my students.”
