Gender Literacy is presented by Outloud St. Albert. The ability to critically examine gender socialization and understand the effects of rigid gender roles and their relationships with gender inequality, discrimination, oppression and violence. Today, assumptions are made about the gender of another person based on their appearance or name and aren’t always correct, but even if it is correct, it sends a potentially harmful message that people must look a certain way to demonstrate the gender that they are or are
not.
Human Libraries started in 2003 in Denmark. They provide a safe and welcoming environment in which participants can learn more about individuals in their community by “borrowing” a person. This “Human Book” shares one-on-one time with you to learn about their life, job, and more. You can listen. You can ask questions. You can learn. You can open your mind. You can change your beliefs about different people and cultures.
